July fourth is almost here and the weather sure has been heating up in South Florida! I am the biggest fan of 4th of July pool parties, picnics, grill-outs, etc.! Anything involving great company and yummy food, I’m there!
Unfortunately cookouts like these always include a whole bunch of sugary sweets that tend not to sit well in the heat (although they are all delicious), so I found a healthy snack that’s both yummy and super festive and is sure to be a crowd-pleaser!
I’ve also written up a recipe for a yummy Fourth of July sparkling lemonade with a special twist!
What you need:
- Watermelon
- Blueberries
- Wooden skewers
- Star-shaped cookie cutters (assorted sizes)
Step 1:
Cut your watermelon into large slices, you want to make sure the slices are thick enough to stick a skewer through without the watermelon falling off. At this time you can also rinse off the blueberries and set them aside on a paper towel to dry.
Step 2:
Once you have cut your watermelon into large, thick slices, use the star-shaped cookie cutters to cut out as many stars as you can!
Step 3:
Take the skewers and stick them into the watermelon stars adding blueberries in between and as needed making them look like shooting stars or fireworks!
Step 4:
Stack your healthy firework Fourth of July snacks on a plate and enjoy!
p.s. If you make these ahead of time, make sure to store them in the fridge to keep the watermelon crisp!
