Jesus loves me! This I know,
For the Bible tells me so;
Little ones to Him belong,
They are weak but He is strong.
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
The Bible tells me so.

Some of us, if not most of us, have heard this song at least once in our lives. Maybe you heard it from your mother or one of your Sunday school teachers when you were young.

A lot of us, now that we’re older, start to question how true the concept of Jesus loving us is.

We ask, “Does Jesus really love me?” or “how could Jesus love me?”

Well, I’m here to let you know that yes, it’s true! Jesus does love you! The Bible clearly states that He loves us no matter what we’ve done or who we are. He promises to forgive our every sin and provides us with a chance at eternal life, if only we believe in Him.

John 3:16

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Romans 5:8 says, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Before we were even born God gave his only Son to die on the cross for our sins to give us the wonderful opportunity of eternal life with Him.

Ephesians 2:8-9

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.

This amazing gift comes to us by God’s wonderful gift of grace. We never once have to do anything to earn His love; we must simply accept it.

He is waiting for you to step out on faith and accept His love for you.

Now, it might be difficult for some of us to believe in Jesus’ love for us because of how others might have wounded us in the past. But Jesus isn’t any ordinary person; He is like us in almost every aspect– mind, body, will– except for sin. He is perfect in every way and He loves you more than anything. He gave His life for you!

Through His blood on the cross, we may have eternal life with Him in Heaven.

Another reason that may be hard for you to believe the truth about Jesus’ love for you could be something you’ve done in the past that is weighing you down. You may be thinking “How could Jesus love me after what I’ve done?” — He knows our every sin but still offers His love and opportunity of eternal life with Him.

Here is an example of Jesus’ unfailing love in His last moments on the cross as He hung there between two criminals.

Luke 23: 40-43

But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? 41 We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.”

Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.[c]”

Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

If this criminal was able to be accepted into Heaven by asking Jesus for forgiveness, so can you. No matter what you’ve done, Jesus still loves you! Now, when the question of “how much does Jesus love me?” comes up, we need only to look at the cross. He says “I love you this much,” with His arms stretched wide.

You can pray to receive Jesus as your Savior right now. Accept His gifts of eternal life and His unfailing love for you.

“Dear God, I realize that I am a sinner and that I could never reach Heaven by any of my own actions. Right now I’d like to place my faith in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, who came down to save me. Please forgive me of my sins and help me to live like you. Thank you for loving me and giving your Son for my chance at eternal life with you.”

I challenge you to be reminded of Christ’s love for you every day. Take a moment out of your day to recognize all that He has done for you and thank Him for it!
