How is everyone? Hanging in there? I know these times have been hard for some so I’ve compiled a list of 10 things to do while social distancing.
1. Get to reading
Do you know those Bible plans you started at the beginning of the year and completely forgot about, like me? It’s time to finally catch yourself up on those! Or grab any book you’ve been meaning to read and get started!
2. Bake up some goodies
I know everyone has been jumping on this bandwagon. I’ve seen a lot of banana bread, and I’m not going to lie, I’m on my second one! If not banana bread, then try out a new dessert recipe or bake one of your favorites!
3. Pray
Our world needs our prayers now more than anything! Take 5-10 minutes out of your day to sit down and pray for those who are serving our country, our government officials, the healthcare workers who are on the front lines, etc., and those who are directly being affected by the situation at hand.
You can also use this time to grow closer to your Creator!
Prayer = a conversation with the the Maker of heaven and earth.
Talk to Him about how the situation is making you feel, are you overwhelmed at the thought of what’s going on, are you scared to leave you home in fear of what lies beyond it? Let Him know and ask for peace in the situation and calm in the storm.
If you ever need anyone to talk to, feel free to contact me!
4. Deep clean
It’s definitely not the most fun thing on this list, but how happy do you feel walking into a tidy room? I know I always feel so accomplished when my room/home is clean. Now, to keep it that way 😉
5. Call your friends
I want to feel connected as much as the next person, but we all have to make an effort in this time! Reach out to a friend you haven’t spoken to in a while! Call up your grandparents or a relative your close with, I’m sure it would make their day.
6. Do a digital detox
For example, instead of checking social media out of habit or out of anxiety, create specific times of the day for social media breaks. We all know that a quick scroll through could feel overwhelming. So instead of scrolling through quickly and at random, choose a time where you can scroll with no guilt and with a few minutes to process what you just saw. Think of it as mini-sessions of a Digital Detox.
7. Get crafty
One of the first things I did during my time at home was grabbed a paintbrush and got to creating! Write a short story, or advance your photography skills by staging a styled shoot!
8. Treat yo’ self
Set up an at-home spa for yourself! Put on some relaxing music, a mask, your fluffy robe, and slippers!
**Bonus: If you have a diffuser, diffuse lavender, and eucalyptus for the ultimate relaxation!
9. Get some Vitamin D
Get outside, but don’t forget your SPF! Being in the sun will trigger your body’s production of Vitamin D, also known as “the sunshine vitamin.” Vitamin D is a crucial part of your overall health, and it has a huge effect on depression and sleep quality!
If you’ve been feeling a bit down, it might be time for some sun! Here are a few ways I have enjoyed the outdoors during this time:
- Go on a walk
- Head out on a bike ride
- Do some outdoor work ( I’m currently in the process of renovation my backyard!)
- Grow a garden or a few pots of herbs you frequently use.
10. Learn something new
My sister taught me how to play a song on her ukulele and she has taken up origami! Whether it’s origami, a new language, or even how to play an instrument, take advantage of the time and learn something new!
